5 Commonly Experienced Dental Bridge Problems

When you have a missing tooth, you seek the help of your dentist. You are then assessed for a dental bridge. Your dentist uses a dental bridge to replace the missing tooth with a permanent solution. The fixed bridge is the most common one used by dentists. This is where crowns are placed on each side of the gap. To connect these, and to fill the space, a solid crown is placed in the center.

The most important quality of the dental bridge is its stability. It must be very well-installed into that gap to really fill the pace. This would then make cleaning much easier. If the dental bridge is not done properly, then various problems may be experienced. Some of the factors that may cause dental bridge problems are the shape of the bridge, the relationship of the opposing teeth, and the size of the bridge. The following are the some of the usual dental bridge problems encountered by dental patients:

1. Fall-off

This is one of the most common dental bridge problems. Usually, the porcelain teeth or crowns of the dental bridges fit snugly over the existing teeth. If things are done properly like regular brushing and gargling and dental visits of at least twice in a year, dental bridges could last from ten to twenty years. But id the dental bridge itself is not well-constructed and not well-maintained, it could immediately fall off and will definitely cause continuous problems. Fall-off of dental bridges may be caused by the teeth’s mechanical preparation. Mechanical preparation is done by trimming the teeth down. Another cause is the decaying tooth under the dental bridge. The last cause is the improper making of the dental bridge in the dental laboratory itself.

2. Fractured

Fractured porcelain is one cause of dental bridge problems as well. This is a break in the bridge just about the thinness of a hairline or bigger. This may be caused by errors in the dental laboratory (processing and creating the bridge). Incorrect judgments made by the dentist about your bite mechanics can be a cause of this fracture as well. This very tiny fracture may result to further breakage of the dental bridge. This may bring out abrasions or undesirable lesions in that particular area of your mouth.

3. Spacing

One of the dental bridge problems is also the space or gap between the dental bridge and the trimmed teeth. There shouldn’t be a gap at all because of there is, there is a possibility of food getting stuck and the tooth may not be completely covered. If there is a gap between the dental bridge and the tooth attachment, then cleaning is not efficient. This may cause gum diseases like tooth decay.

4. Sizing

Measuring the size of the dental bridge is very important. If the size is not right, this is one of the dental bridge problems that you have to deal with. Normally, dental bridges should be able to fit just right in that gap. Inappropriate sizing of the dental bridge may result to bulky or very slim bridges. Bulky dental bridges irritate the cheek. Dental bridges that are too slim cause food particles to get stuck between the bridge and the existing tooth. This may lead to decay.

5. Multiple

Replacing missing teeth is the main objective of dental bridges. If you need several dental bridges, this may be complicated to do. Multiple missing teeth can definitely be one of the dental bridge problems that the dentist has to make a proper solution to. There may be a need for the dentist to have a dental bridge custom-made into having three or four crowns just to make the procedure possible. Available teeth in your mouth to attach the dental bridges to may prove to be the problem. The dentist then has to make sure that the dental bridges are securely placed to fill all the rows of missing teeth.

To avoid having to undergo all the tedious procedures of having a missing tooth replaced by a dental bridge, you have to make sure that you take good care of your teeth in the first place. It is less expensive for anyone to maintain the good condition of their teeth than having solutions made by their dentists. If you end up having a dental bridge constructed for you, then you should be very aware of the dental bridge problems that may occur. Make sure that you talk to your dentist very well so that your assessment will be accurate. This way, your dental bridges may fit you the right way.
